Yet another aid worker has been officially arrested and is heading to Khartoum to be charged with various crimes, all because the group in question published a report showing evidence of hundreds of rapes of women in the Darfur region.
And the U.N. does what it does best. It constructs a sternly worded letter for the leaders of Sudan. It is simply amazing to me, though it should not be of any real shock, that while millions are displaced and thousands die in an ongoing genocide, the U.N. appoints committees and commissions, and issues its toothless warnings and complaints.
Once again, I think the U.N. has outlived its usefulness. Say what you might about the U.S. governement, but the likening of the U.N. to a debate club are very apropos. They allowed thousands to die in Somalia. Same with Chechnya, same with Bosnia. The U.N. "Peacekeepers" are little more than errand boys who, while at the unit level really do try to help, are hamstrung from the very top. Koffi Anon is a useless mouthpiece, and most, if not all, of the UN delegates are little more than political puppets.
The United Nations is a joke, and an old one at that. Its time to end the misery and perhaps form a group that will actually DO something instead of sitting around namby-pamby twiddling their thumbs while millions of people suffer needlessly across the world.
