I haven't had anything personal to write about in a while. Well, check that, that's not entirely true. I have, I just have been either too busy, or too lazy to type it up. Too lazy because I've been rather busy and haven't felt like doing it. To busy because of our wonderful economy (yes, Mr. McCain, the economy is certainly strong from where I'm sitting). More importantly, it's because I just haven't had the time, outside of work, and I really hate sitting at work typing these things up.
So I guess I shoud go back to the Fall. For starters, we spent nearly a week in the mountains at our place in Fontana. And by place, I mean timeshare. But it was nice. We did some driving around on the twisties in the little Miata. We went hiking around the Appalachain Trail area and saw all sorts of wildlife. Bear, Boar, Deer, Coyote, you name it. That was a very nice, relaxing time in the mountains, and I can't wait to go back.
Following that, we entered in to Thanksgiving season, which was a bit of a wash thanks to UNC screwing D with her work schedule. The eating was good, mind you, but the rest was just too, disjointed to really be terribly enjoyable. I like seeing friends and family and all that, I just hate the scramble and the rush some times. I did manage to get a couple good things on Black Friday, thanks to this years pre-emptive Black Friday stuff on sale on Thursday deals... so I ordered everything online and didn't have to stand in line at 2AM this time.
I still went out on BF and picked up some gifts and such, and with the economy being how it is, it was a bit disappointing. The major stores I hit up seemed like every other day. No rushing crowds, no screaming and fighting. I almost wish I HAD stood in line just to see the frenetic activity that is Black Friday. But with so many people out of work, and so many more wondering if they'll be employeed, the whole deal was just ... meh.
Christmas came on, and again, it was a bit of a disjointed experience. I had fun and all, but again with the scrambling and rushing here and there and not enough time to really visit with any one group of people. That and I caught the Plague. Well, that's what I'm calling it at least. Everyone I know seems to be infected with it though. Chest congestion, coughing, headache, maybe a fever. She's had it for a while, and by the end of Christmas, her whole family ended up sick, including me.
New Years was spent here, alone, feeling like ass. I forced myself to sit up long enough to see the ball drop, then I crashed with a nice dose of Ambien and slept the slumber of the dead. I really don't get too much into NYE anyway. I went to one really good party once when I was in Fire/EMS, but not too many after that, at least, not ones that left me in any condition to remember :-)
So here we are today, In the beginning days of 2009. I hit the Urgent Care doc this morning, and hopefully we'll head out to see Marley and Me today at the matinee. Sounds like fun, eh? I have to work Monday, but I may call out, because I still feel like ass... we'll see.
But on the other hand, Virginia Tech finally won a Bowl Game!! They beat Cincinati in the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day 20 - 7 in what turned out to actually be a pretty good game. AND I can finally buy a Bowl Game Champions shirt for the Hokies!
GO HOKIES!
