Yay, lets hear it for Grace Community Church in Jacksonville, Florida. Once again, we are shown the love and acceptance of a church as they kindly treat one of their parishioners who has somehow fallen afoul of one of God's many rules.
They, of course, are demonstrating their love by taking everything this woman said, in private, to her mentor in the church, and telling it to every member during service, while her children are there. What a warm devotional that must be. More specifically, what a bunch of loving, caring and concerned Christians they are. Imagine, taking her confessions, uttered in private to a member of the church and sharing them with the entire congregation!
Ok, in truth, I hate this, and this is one more example of exactly why I detest organized religion of any sort. I mean, really. This woman came to them and asked for the loving Christian help one should expect from a "non-denominational" church. She told them about her relationship in which she was ... GASP... having sex! The church, in it's infinite and divinely inspired acceptance and love immediately ordered her to break up with her boyfriend because she was a damnable sinner.
When that didn't work, they told her stories to a group of old hags, who got her into a room and proceeded to crucify her and persecute her because she is, in their eyes, a dirty, dirty whore. Finally, she has enough, so she leaves the church. She even writes them a formal letter ending her relationship with the church.
Her only mistake was to allow her children to continue attending the same "warm, loving" church that had basically put a knife into her back. A knife made of her own questions and desire for help and understanding. Unfortunately, that same Christian group is now going to reveal all her sins, all her confessions, all her "dirty laundry" before the entire congregation, INCLUDING HER CHILDREN, who still trust that this "church" is teaching them something useful.
Why is it that, despite individual Christians adamant and repeated claims that their religion is one of love and hope, they consistently, throughout history, as a group display disdain, arrogance, hate, prejudice, violence and vitriol? Why is it that people can be so blind? Why is it that people can be such asshats? Hell, I'm most assuredly not a Christian, and I would NEVER consider doing something so vile to someone so vulnerable. Unlike SOME PEOPLE, I have a strong sense of morality, and respect for others and their secrets.
You can find the full story here on Fox News. Yes, I know it's Fox News... but even they can't get religion stories wrong. They are, after all, the mouthpiece of the neo-con, yes? At least, that's what my liberal friends seem to think.
But, in case you don't trust "Faux News" as it's sometimes called, here is MSNBC, the Florida Times-Union and Church Solutions dot Com, who got it from MSNBC. What a great world we live in. Merry Christmas everyone!
